We met Sunday during a mobile clinic in Kitale. It was easy to note her friendly demeanor even as we tried to figure out what had brought her to the mobile clinic. Sunday, the fourth child in a family of five children got burned when she was still a toddler. “She fell into a fire and her left arm was burned” her mother explained. Since the incident, Sunday has never had any surgery to release the contracture that formed.
For a girl as young as her, were were surprised by the clarity of her dreams, she wants to become a doctor, ,more specifically a surgeon, and for good reasons, “I want to help my society and help other children who have the same or severe conditions.” She informed us.
Surgery to release the burn contracture is possible. This surgery will be of great help, not only to Sunday, but to her mum as well. After surgery, Sunday will be able to stretch her hand, help her mother in household chores, improve her self esteem and help her further her studies without interference. Our doctors at CURE, Kenya are well able and willing to take her through it. But her parents are not able to raise the amount needed for the surgery. “Where we come from is very interior, getting hold of a thousand is like a million, we have to toil hard to provide for the family and now for Sunday who needs a surgery. We are kindly requesting for help.” Chemron, Sundays mother pleaded with us.
We have an opportunity to STEP – IN and help Sunday get this much needed surgery.
