Boez-Rotlel

Boez-Rotlel

by CURE Kenya / Monday, 08 October 2018 / Published in Step In

He is a four-year-old boy from Konyao Village in West Pokot County. He is the last born, with just one other older sibling. He recently joined nursery school. “He is doing well in school, he loves to read, play with other children and is very active in Sunday school.” His mother told us proudly.

Boez was born normally at a hospital near their home, however, immediately after birth, his mother, Christine, noticed an unusual curving on his feet, concerned, she consulted the doctor and for the first time she learnt about clubfoot. Thankfully the doctor also reassured her that the condition was correctable. Boez journey to get clubfoot treatment thus begun immediately. Thanks to his mother’s dedication, he went through serial casting, the non-surgical process of correcting the condition.

Unfortunately, 4 years later, his foot has proven stubborn as the condition keeps recurring. Boez has also been experiencing pain while walking thus cannot walk long distances. As she sought more permanent solutions to her son’s condition, seeking to rid him of the deformity and the pain, Christine heard about CURE Kenya, through radio. Her hopes were immediately renewed, and though our nearest mobile clinic was being hosted a good three hours away from their village, she did what any loving mother would do, she endeavored to reach Kitale despite the distance and the challenge of transport with renewed hope.

On examination by our surgeons, Christine was able to get a clear picture of what medical intervention her son needs. Unfortunately she is currently unable to raise the amount needed to provide the surgery to her son. She is a single mother, having lost her husband three years ago as a result of a short illness.

She would appreciate your help, her plea to us,  “I am a widow, and sometimes putting food on the table for my children is a problem, where we live is very far and there are no jobs. Any help will be highly appreciated.”

This is an opportunity for you to STEP – IN and help Christine make this surgery a reality for her son Boez.
